The Nutshell house was home to the Winston family, who owned and operated the Hanover Tavern at various times throughout history. The Fields family, including Hanover Tavern cook Martha Ann Fields, and her sons George Washington Fields and James Apostles Fields, were enslaved here at the Nutshell House. This pre-Civil War historic house was located behind the Hanover County Courthouse and was, unfortunately, demolished in May of 2016.

Transcend Paranormal investigated this location many times prior to it’s razing. In hopes of documenting this location for those who did not get a chance to step inside, we paired up with Hanover Tavern to take pictures of every room and some of the architecture found within the house. You can find all of these pictures, and more information, here.
